A Tale of Love and History

Las Bodas de Isabel is not just a festival; it's a living history lesson filled with passion and drama. Over the course of four captivating days, amateur actors breathe life into the captivating tale of the Lovers of Teruel. With more than 60 theatrical acts performed right on the city streets, you'll be immersed in the romantic saga. From the heart-wrenching  death announcement of Diego de Marcilla on Thursday evening to the grand wedding of Isabel de Segura and Pedro de Azagra on Friday morning, every moment is a page from a medieval love story.

A Journey Through Time

Prepare to be transported to the 13th century as you stroll through the streets of Teruel. Hundreds of actors, both locals, and tourists, don authentic medieval attire, many of which are meticulously crafted to ensure historical accuracy. Teruel transforms into a bustling medieval town with haimas (tents) representing different facets of 13th-century society, enticing food stalls, enlightening exhibitions, skillful craft demonstrations, and a bustling medieval market. The city's streets are adorned with period-appropriate decorations, and you'll witness a vivid reenactment of activities from the era

Wedding Bull Spectacle

One of the most captivating aspects of Las Bodas de Isabel is the Wedding Bull spectacle. This traditional event symbolizes a medieval fertility ritual where a brave bull charges through the city streets. Two days before the wedding, the groom requests the bull be brought to the city, securely tethered with a rope. The rope must be long enough for the bull to move freely by the bride's window. This allows the groom to perform a symbolic act, passing his cape over the bull's back, signifying the bull's fertility in a rite of passage.

But what sets this spectacle apart is the bull's striking feature—a floral crown adorns its head. The bull, taunted with Isabel's cape, creates a mesmerizing scene. It's then that the Lord of Azagra ceremoniously places the cape back on the bull, symbolizing the transfer of the bull's strength and fertility. The Association of Friends of the Soga and Baga of Teruel skillfully oversees and controls the bull during this awe-inspiring ceremony.

A Glimpse into the Past

The history of Las Bodas de Isabel de Segura dates back to 1997 when it first graced the city. In 2007, it was rightfully declared a Festival of Tourist Interest in Aragon, and by 2016, it had ascended to the status of a National Tourist Interest Festival. The festival is meticulously organized by the Bodas de Isabel de Segura Foundation and the Federation of Associations "Las Bodas de Isabel de Segura," ensuring a seamless and enchanting experience for all.
